“If anyone Can, Amir Can” said the t shirts worn by a group of Amir’s fans, and tonight he certainly didn’t disappoint the home fans at the MEN arena in Manchester, winning the WBA light Welterweight championship of the world with a comfortable points victory over the champion Andreas Kotelnik. Khan boxed in a controlled manner, always trying to get his shots off first and use his dazzling speed to beat Kotelnik to the punch. Kotelnik had rare success in the fight, finding it hard to pin Khan down, although he landed some good shots on Khan by making him miss and then counter punching, but Khan always replied with 4 shots to Kotelniks one. The question marks have been out for Khan, and this goes someway to silencing them as he sets out on this the next chapter of his relatively short career. The big fights are now just around the corner for the likable Bolton kid, and the divisions big names will be knocking on his door, but until a rematch with his nemesis Prescott is made and that lone defeat avenged, the doubters will still be lurking to question Khan…. full report on the fight coming soon as well as the rest of the MEN under card.
