David Coldwell Boxer, manager, promoter
He’s a trainer, manager, promoter and also was a boxer once upon a time, David Coldwell is an all round boxing man of all seasons.
In a four year Flyweight career, Coldwell managed to win the Central Area Title, but came up just short whenever he stepped up a level against the likes of Mickey Cantwell and Jose Lopez Bueno.
David had been training kids at a gym for Brendan Ingle for a while and after a defeat to Jim Betts in 2000,which proved to be his last, was left contemplating his next move.
David had parted company with Ingle by this time and felt that training could be the way to go, rather than keep plugging away with a boxer career that was never really hitting the heights he wanted.
He always loved the gym, the banter, the atmosphere of it, so it was the ideal way to keep him in the game he loves and be around the sport.
Coldwell’s first training experience was with light heavyweight, Pinky Burton, who never really set the division on fire, but it was all adding to David’s confidence and he was learning the game all the time.
He quickly gathered a excellent reputation and in 2003, David delved into the promoting side of the game, starting up Koncrete Promotions.
David Coldwell with Adam Booth and Heavyweight world champion David Haye
After about 22 shows, Dave was offered the chance to start up the Hayemaker promotional group along with Haye himself and Adam Booth, to look after the boxing side of the business, which is going stronger than ever.
Among the boxers in Coldwell’s camp is the rejuvenated Ryan Rhodes, who recently picked up the European Light-Middleweight Title in a brutal victory over Jamie Moore and is looking for a WBC Title shot in the near future.
Dave is true boxing man and credit to the sport and at 34, still has plenty of time to notch up some World Champions in the future.
We certainly wish him all the best.
David is also organising “An Evening with the Heavyweight Champion of the World” with WBA holder David Haye on the 23rd June 2010 at the Magna Centre in Rotherham.
tickets are £50, £75 or £150 VIP, for information call 01709 720002.
