JASON BOOTH’S challenge for Steve Molitor’s for the International Boxing Federation world super-bantamweight title has been rescheduled for Saturday September 11th.

The Nottingham star (35-5) will meet the Canadian (32-1) at Rainton Meadows Arena, Houghton-Le-Spring in Frank Maloney’s first show of the new season.

The pair were due to meet later this month, but Molitor suffered a stress fracture to his left shin which left him sidelined.

Booth, 32, said: “It was a bit of a disappointment, but on the flip side gives me even longer to prepare from my big chance.

“The delay isn’t Steve’s fought and I am sure he is as gutted as I am about the delay. I just hope he is getting better and on the mend.”

Molitor explained the injury which left him in agony, saying: “I have hurt my hand before and had other injuries and kept going, but this pain was unbearable.

“I am fed up over what happened, but I am delighted that the date has been rescheduled. I am just looking forward to staying healthy and giving a great performance.”

During a 14-year career Booth has won British and Commonwealth flyweight titles, the IBO super-flyweight crown, Commonwealth bantamweight championship plus British and Commonwealth belts.

Southpaw Molitor, 31, won the IBF crown for the second time when he outpointed Takalani Ndlovu in March.

His first reign as champion started in November 2006 when he knocked out Hartlepool’s Michael Hunter in five rounds.

Molitor made five successful defences, but his reign ended two years later when he was stopped in four rounds by Celestino Caballero in a unification fight.

Hunter is their one common opponent – Booth also claimed a five round win over him last October.

Booth won’t be after Molitor’s treasured world title belt, but also family revenge. Molitor visited these shores in September 2002 and took the Commonwealth bantamweight title from Jason’s younger brother, Nicky.

The fight will be televised live by Sky Sports.

FULL VENUE DETAILS, UNDERCARD, TICKET INFO AND PRESS CONFERENCE DETAILS WILL BE ANNOUNCED LATER THIS MONTH.
