Prizefighter champ heads bill for Walter Smith tribute night

Unbeaten lightweight Ryan Brawley(left) will headline a special night for Rangers manager Walter Smith on January 24th as he challenges for the Scottish lightweight title at a star-studded night at the St Andrews Club in Glasgow.

Southpaw Brawley, 24, has a 16 fight unblemished record and picked up a cheque for £32,000 in March 2009, when he defeated Liverpool’s Stephen Burke in the Prizefighter lightweights final at the Kelvin Hall.

Since then, the Irvine fighter has recorded four more points victories and now faces Kirkcaldy-born Stuart Green for the Scottish title, before a planned shot at former world champion Gavin Rees’ British lightweight title in the summer.

The night honours former Scotland and Everton manager Walter Smith, who plans to leave his post as Glasgow Rangers boss in the summer and will be joined by stars of the sport such as Sir Alex Ferguson, Graeme Souness and current Celtic manager Neil Lennon.
