Promoter Barry Hearn has stated his interest in working with WBC super-middleweight champion Carl Froch, who is now a free agent after his recent split with Mick Hennessy.
Froch 33, cut his ties with Hennessy Promotions with the intention of promoting himself for his next two fights, against Glenn Johnson and then Andre Ward which are fights already in place as part of the ‘Super Six tournament‘.
“I’ve been self-promoting for ages, to be honest.” Froch told BBC East Midlands today.
“I’m no longer working with my representative, Mick Hennessy. I’m going it alone.
“The relationship went wrong in a lot of areas – it’s in the hands of the lawyers. I’m having to do it myself now and I’m a lot better off.” Froch added.
The Cobra is expected to strike a deal with Sky Sports to show his fights, which will go some way to letting the boxing’s fans and the general public gain live tv access to one of the UK’s current best fighters.
Froch’s public recognition has not been what it considering his ring credentials and it is not something that has been lost on promoter Barry Hearn who in an interview with BBC Sport said that he and son Eddie, would like to promote the Nottingham man.
“We feel a bit sorry for Carl, He’s a great fighter who’s never really had the exposure he deserves, he is a world class fighter, yet no one knows him outside his own living room and that can’t be right.. said Hearn.
“He’s showed fantastic character to win fights in foreign lands and that’s the mark of a great fighter,” he added.
“My son Eddie runs our fight division, and is an even bigger fight fan than me, and he said to Carl, we’d love to promote you in England.
“Carl knows where we are if he needs us. It’s his call.”
