James DeGale and George Groves met today in the ring, but it wasn’t punches that were being landed just yet, it was the usual war of words that was being thrown at each other, as the two rivals came head-to-head at the pair’s old at Amateur Boxing Club Dale Youth for the latest press conference..

The pair will meet for real in a British and Commonwealth super-middleweight title showdown at the O2 Arena on May 21st, on the undercard of Nathan Cleverly’s world title tilt at Jurgen Braehmer.

DeGale in usual confident mood ahead of the fight promised to batter Groves when the pair go toe-to-toe later this month, and the Olympic gold medallist eyes his own world title chance, he mocked Groves’ black eye which had been picked up sparring.

“Listen, I look at him and I know him.” said DeGale.

“With his leaky defence of course he is going to get battered and bruised and stuff like that but he is going to get worse than that on May 21.

“His biggest weakness is his defence, he has no defence. No defence at all, he can’t box, he can’t fight on the ropes. he doesn’t know how to hold.

“The inside fighting bit, he just can’t do it. Basically he is going to get battered or be a kip on the floor. That’s it. Game over, ugly boy. You’re done. Finished, finito. added DeGale.

DeGale Groves Face Off
Groves joined by his trainer Adam Booth, looked liked he would rather be anywhere but in DeGale’s company on this Thursday afternoon in London and hit back in his dry calm manner saying.

“Because I’m fighting James, I feel neither way about him I don’t like him I don’t dislike him, its just a fight, just someone I’m going to get in the ring with and beat.

“If I wasn’t fighting him, Id fell like everyone else feels about him… I wouldn’t like him.” added Groves who beat DeGale as an amateur.

DeGale hit back saying, ‘He is going to be confident but, as I’ve said before, Georgey Groves has more balls than brains – Please believe me. That is going to be his downfall.’
