Ricky Hatton believes that Ryan Rhodes will beat WBC light-middleweight champion Saul Alvarez when he takes on the new idol of Mexican boxing in Mexico on Saturday June 18th.

Ricky watched his brother Matthew push Alvarez all the way over the distance with ‘El Canelo’ in March and is confident that Rhodes has what it takes to hand Alvarez his first professional loss.

“My brother Matthew showed that Alvarez can be hit, but unfortunately that night, he just was not big enough,” Hatton told Boxrec. “I expect that Ryan, who is a natural light-middleweight, will come through and become Hatton Promotions’ first world champion.”

Rhodes recently signed with Hatton Promotions who have formed a good working relationship with Golden Boy, the promotions company run by Oscar de la Hoya and representing Alvarez.

The relationship between Hatton and De la Hoya has helped Rhodes get the chance to win a world title, some 14 years after he first attempted to win the WBO middleweight title.

The fight is to take place in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico in-front of Alvarez’s increasing number of fans in what will be a cauldron atmosphere at altitude nearly 6000 feet above sea level.
It will be Alvarez’s home coming party, the first defence of the world title he won against another Brit. Matthew Hatton last month. But Rhodes 34, now a veteran of the sport has earned this chance and promises to upset ‘Canelos’ party plans.

It only seems like yesterday that Ryan Rhodes and childhood friend, gym mate and boxing side kick Prince Naseem Hamed set out to conquer the boxing world, with their brand of Errol Graham Es boxing, switch hitting and lucid skills bred into their souls and psyche by trainer Brendan Ingle at his inner city Winkobank Gym in Sheffield.
