Anthony ‘Million Dollar’ Crolla with trainer Joe Gallagher
British lightweight champion Anthony Crolla’s hopes of fighting Erik Morales in September have been quashed! – With the news that the Mexican legend has agreed to now face Jorge Barrios for the vacant WBC light-welterweight title instead.

The title which is currently owned by Timothy Bradley looks like being stripped from the American, with Morales and Barrios to contest it on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather’s fight against Victor Ortiz in Las Vegas on September 17th.

Crolla who is coached by Joe Gallagher, has been in the gym and in full training getting ready for the biggest night of his boxing career and this will be an upsetting blow for the much improved Mancunian. Who was said to be ready to shock the boxing world by beating the 34 year-old former three weight world champion.

Many of Crolla’s fans, friends and family have already booked flights to Sin City for the proposed fight in September and will be left very disappointed with the fall-out of this fight.

“I’m Really gutted for Anthony Crolla his family friends and fans who have paid to watch him in Vegas” said Joe Gallagher.

Crolla’ could still get to fight on the Las Vegas undercard, which will please his fans, although an opponent has not yet been named or that confirmed. Other options for him could be a defence of his British title against mandatory challenger Willie Limond, touted for October. Limmond himself fought Morales in September last year in Mexico, losing by 6th round stoppage. Or Crolla could chase a fight with European champion Gavin Rees.
