Brian Magee
Northern Ireland’s Brian Magee easily outpointed Jaime Barboza via a unanimous 12 round decision to win the fringe interim WBA super-middleweight belt in San Jose, Costa Rica on Saturday night.

It was Magee’s first fight back since losing to IBF champion Lucian Bute in March for the world title and he proved to have too much experience and ring smart for Barboza and for the most dominated the Costa Rican, controlling the fight with good use of his jab and continually worked well to Barboza’s body.

Most are not really sure what the WBA interim title means, but it was a good twelve rounds in the bank for Magee who hopes to get another crack at a world title, before his boxing time is out.

The WBA world champion at super-middleweight is Andre Ward and he will meet Nottingham’s Carl Froch on October 29 in America and Magee will be chasing a second world title tilt against the winner.
