Liverpool’s Stephen Smith made it two first round wins in two weeks when he blew away Crawley’s Ben Jones in 1:24 seconds of the opening round, to win the WBO Inter-continental super featherweight title at the Troxy in London on Friday night.

Smith jumped on Jones after hurting him with a right hand to the body, he quickly brought a right cross over, which crashed off Jones’ temple, stunning him and stiffening his legs against the ropes. Another right hand for good measure landed, and as Jones sank to the canvas, referee Ritchie Davies jumped in to save him and wave it over.

Smith 26, is quickly building his self back, after his devastating loss to Lee Selby last year, when he lost his British and Commonwealth belts to the Welshman by KO. – A first round win 13 days ago in Munich on the undercard to heavyweight world title fight between champion Vitali Klitschko and Londoner Dereck Chisora and another quick blowout here of Jones, is proof Stephen Smith is not hanging around.

He seems a different fighter post Selby, it’s like the loss has awoken a more determined and stubborn animal. -vA move back down to featherweight is expected for Smith, who is looking to gain revenge over the only man to ever defeat him as a professional.

Asked by BoxNation after the fight what his next step will be, there is only one man on Smith’s mind and he is hungry for redemption. “I want to win the British title back, I want my opportunity, I gave Lee Selby a voluntary defence, I want Lee Selby to give me my chance.
“Lee Selby knows I’m here, lets do it.”
