|Kell Brook in tough test against Carson|
Unbeaten Kell Brook will take on American Carson Jones in his home town of Sheffield on the 7th July in what will be an eliminator for the IBF welterweight title.
Jones, beaten just once in his last 19 fights is ranked 3rd by the IBF, two places above Brook, while top 2 pair Mike Jones and Randall Bailey contest the vacant title next month, in this competitive division.
“I thought I was too nice against Hatton. Against Carson Jones you’re going to see the nasty Kell Brook – you’ll see me pushing the fight and being aggressive.”
Amir Khan remains the long-term target for Brook, who said: “I’m in the mix now and it’s just a matter of time. That’s the fight we all do want to see.”
But Carson warned Brook that he has no problem with travelling abroad to fight and says he intends to come to ‘Special K’s’ hometown and knock him out!
“Basically Kell Brook is the last person standing in my way to fight for a World title,” said Jones. “He will have to kill me to beat me because I have worked too hard to let anyone stop me from reaching my dream.
“It does not matter if the fight is here, there or in Zimbabwe. I have made a living going to other people’s hometowns and knocking them out and this will be no exception. Kell Brook needs to be afraid, very afraid, because his fans are going to see him put to sleep on July 7.”
Interview with Carson Jones ‘Kell Brook is all hype. I’ll stop him in 8 rounds’
The Sheffield show will also feature two good European title fights.
Gavin Rees and Derry Mathews will meet again for the lightweight belt after last October’s fight was declared a technical draw following a clash of heads.
Also, Welshman Kerry Hope will take on Surrey-based Pole Greg Proksa for the middleweight crown. It is another rematch with Hope having won the title in their first meeting.
