Theophane to defend belt against Hamilton after Williams pulls out
15th May 2012
Ashley Theophane will defend his British light-welterweight title against Darren Hamilton on Saturday night at the Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool, after original challenger Steve Williams pulled out.
Hamilton, 33, who is promoted by Spencer Fearon gets this surprise chance to make an instant name for himself against Theophane, on the back of a fantastic career best win over John Watson last month.
It is believed Theophane had a shortlist of fighters willing to step in, including Prizefighter winner Adil Anwar who is already fighting on the Liverpool bill in a British title eliminator against Dave Ryan.
But it was Hamilton who finally got the go ahead.
Theophane’s Record : (31-4-1, 9KO’s)
Hamilton’s Record: (11-2, 3KO’s)
More details to follow here soon.
