Spencer Fearon Darren Hamilton and Adil Anwar inspire Northwest youth

Young people in four schools across the North West were treated to an inspiring visit from the British Light Welterweight champion Darren Hamilton, and boxing promoter Spencer Fearon.

Darren and Spencer took time out of their busy schedules to spend time talking with students in Manchester, Accrington, Bolton and Rochdale and

encouraging them to follow their dreams.

The impact on the students was tangible. Mr Hussain, a teacher a Smithills School in Bolton, said: “It was a great morning and all the students really enjoyed it. Both speakers talked about their experiences in life and in the boxing ring and touched on aspects such as respect, discipline and confidence. I’m sure this visit will help inspire our pupils to pursue their talents and achieve their ambitions.”

Girls and boys from years 8 and 10 at Kingsway Park School were gripped by the story of Darren’s journey from homelessness to boxing glory. Self-confidence, he explained, was the key: “If you don’t believe in yourself, then no-one will.” He also emphasised the importance of character, and that money isn’t everything.

Later, Darren and Spencer were joined by Prizefighter champion and English Light Welterweight Champion Adil Anwar at Great Harwood Community Centre, where the trio participated in an interactive session with local young people – as well as giving them a chance to have their photos taken with the British Belt and Prizefighter trophy.

The visit was organised by Mosaic, as part of their mission to create opportunities for young people of all backgrounds growing up in the most
deprived communities in the UK.
