Wythenshawe light-welterweight Kofi Yates a former decorated amateur made a successful professional debut against the tough Paul Haines in a local Manchester derby match-up at the Wythenshawe Forum on Friday night.

Yates took a close points win 39-38 on referee Steve Gray’s scorecard and he could have chosen an easier opponent than Haines for his debut, the Mancunian loves to fight and comes to win. He is better than his record suggests and it wont be long before he sheds the journeyman tag and begins to score a few wins and Yate’s had to dig deep.

Yates is a former Jimmy Egan boxer who was trained by Steve and Shaun Egan, but has now turned over pro with former fighter Anthony ‘Arnie’ Farnell and looks to have a promising career ahead of him. The above video is of footage in the dressing room pre fight, ring walk and snippets from the fight, plus post fight interview with Kofi and Arnie.
