British champion Frankie Gavin is confident that his general ring craft, southpaw maneuvers and elusiveness will be all too much for his opponent Commonwealth champion Denton Vassell when the two British welterweight big guns go head-to-head in what promises to be a fight of the year candidate, at Liverpool’s Olympia tonight 9Friday June 28)
“I am ready to go. I will give Vassell the respect he deserves.” Gavin told Ian Johnson for The Birmingham Mail.
“He has a fine record. I won’t have to find him. He will be coming forward. He has a decent jab and he can punch. I will have to be careful.
“But he has never met anybody like me. He has never met a southpaw of my quality but I will still be expecting the unexpected.
“I will be doing things he has never seen before. There is not another southpaw in the country like me.
“I am so hard to hit and I will prove that brains are better than brawn.
“I will have 200 fans backing me and it will be like being at home because I have boxed successfully at the venue as an amateur on many occasions. I cannot wait.’’
