David Haye has reluctantly postponed next weeks fight with Fury, after getting a deep cut above his left eye during a sparring session in preparation for the big fight.
“Gutted isn’t even the word. Mentally, I’m on the floor at the moment,” Haye commented.
He was giving six stitches and is now awaiting further medical results before he can set a new date for the Manchester bout.
This is not the first time Haye has done this after pulling out of his fight against Manuel Charr on 29 June, because of a hand injury, again in a sparring session in preparation for his fight.
“After being properly assessed, Haye was left with no choice but to postpone the fight”, Hayemaker Promotions said.
“I’m devastated. I know injuries and cuts are part and parcel of our sport, but this doesn’t change the feeling of disappointment and sadness I’m experiencing right now,” added Haye.
“Even when everything seems to be right on track, sometimes life throws you a curveball. I will somehow have to try and make the best of this horrible situation. But, right now, I’m in bits about what has happened.”
He also said on twitter ” This is the worst tweet I’ve ever had send. I’m so sorry everyone”.
Fury is yet to comment but you can imagine it will be a mixture of cockiness and frustration.
