Video: Smith – Alvarez build up preview

Canelo Alvarez challenges Britain’s Liam Smith for his world title on Saturday, September 17 from AT&T Stadium, home of the Dallas Cowboys in America.

Smith, travels to defend his WBO World Super-welterweight belt against Alvarez knowing only a top class performance will see him return to Liverpool with his treasured crown and the world at his feet.

Ginger haired Mexican super-star ‘Canelo’ sensationally knocked out Smith’s countryman Amir Khan back in May to retain his then world Middleweight crown, before moving back down a weight to 154 lbs. Canelo also holds wins over Brits, Ryan Rhodes and Matthew Hatton. His only defeat came against Floyd Mayweather on points.

It was Smith who helped Amir Khan prepare for that fight against Canelo and he will have picked up invaluable insights into Canelo’s game which can only increase his chances of causing an upset.

Beefy has made two successful defences of his WBO World Title against Jimmy Kelly Jr and Predrag Radosevic after landing the vacant World Title against John Thompson in sensational style back in October.

The unbeaten Liverpudlians knock out streak moved to eight in a row with the Radosevic victory on June 4 and makes an obvious step up in class against one of boxing’s genuine pound for pound fighters.

It’s a chance for Alvarez to win another World Title at the weight, having previously held the WBA and WBC World Title belts.

Both men have a come forward attitude which has all the makings for an intriguing fight. Will Smith’s ferocious body shots be able to dent Canelo? Can Alvarez land a similar shot to what finished Kirkland and Khan?

Boxing is booming and Liam Smith lines up in one of the biggest fights involving a British fighter of the year, watch it live on the Channel of Champions BoxNation
