Graham Everett believes Ryan Walsh’s (21-1-1, 10 KOs) big fight experience will give him the edge over Dennis Ceylan (17-0-1, 8 KOs) in their European Featherweight title clash on October 15 at the Arena Nord in Frederikshavn.

The Norwich-based trainer has been responsible for taking Ryan and his twin brother Liam from the amateur ranks and turning them into two of Britain’s most promising fighters.

Under his guidance, the brothers made history by becoming the first twins to hold British titles simultaneously, and while Ryan prepares for his shot at the European title, Liam fights in an IBF World title eliminator a week before.

Everett, who trains Walsh at the Kickstop Gym Norwich, believes his fighter’s championship experience, including a British and Commonwealth title loss to the current IBF World Champion Lee Selby, could prove the difference on the night.

“Dennis is a very good fighter and he has or full attention,” says Everett. “He’s big, he’s strong and he’s a decent puncher. He is also a former Olympian so he has a good amateur pedigree and can obviously box a bit too.

But I think Ryan has fought at a higher level as a professional, with the likes of Lee Selby and three or four other championship fights, which gives him the edge when it comes to big fight experience and that should come through in the fight.

“I can actually see a lot of similarities between Dennis and Ryan’s last opponent James Tennyson. Before that fight James was the favourite, but Ryan did a real job on him that night. He stayed close, worked him and caught him with some good shots. I think that was one of his career best performances.

With Dennis, we’ve prepared for a boxer and a fighter. Ryan and his brother Liam spar a lot together and go through different scenarios where one will be on the attack and the other will be on the defence. They’re meticulous in their preparations, and make sure they tick every box, so it’s safe to say that Ryan will be ready for whatever Dennis turns up.”

Dennis Ceylan’s European title fight with Ryan Walsh tops a blockbuster bill at the Arena Nord in Frederikshavn on October 15. Rashid Kassem faces his toughest career test against British boxer Joe Murray, Abdul Khattab takes on Bartlomiej Grafka, Dina Thorslund faces Oksana Romanova, and professional debutant Mikkel Nielsen meets Andrei Dolhozhyieu.
