Arguably the most important week in Dave Coldwell’s professional career commences on February 25th when the Sheffield trainer takes Gavin McDonnell into a huge encounter against unbeaten Mexican star, Rey Vargas.
One week later, the highly anticipated grudge match between Coldwell charge, Tony Bellew, and brash londoner, David Haye, is live from the O2 Arena live only on Sky Box Office. Coldwell has lived a pious existence over the last few months preparing his fighters for battle and he cuts a confident stance knowing full well the hard work required in the gym is close to being complete.

“We’re almost there aren’t we?” Asked an excited Coldwell. “When I returned to training a few years back there wasn’t a part of me that thought I’d be taking part in fights of this magnitude that have got the entire nation talking and the motivation it gives me really is something else.
“The gym is in a good mood and both Tony and Gavin know the enormity of the task that faces them and the pair of them have not cut a single corner. They’re doing every single thing that I ask of them and that’s going to put them in a great position come fight night. It’s been a long time coming but it’s coming around now so the next couple of weeks are so important.”
Coldwell added, “For two of my fighters to have their biggest ever fight a week apart is a massive challenge for me but this is what I’m in the sport for. Fights and events of this size. Both have sacrificed so much for this in the build up and they’re close to being ready so all that’s left is a few more hard sessions and then it’s time for Gavin and Tony to chase their dreams. We’re all aware of how hard the tasks are but we know we’ve prepared right and that will show soon.”
