Murray in great shape
Manchester Machine, John Murray the current British and European lightweight champion, will defend the Euro strap at the Robin Park Arena in Wigan tonight, against Ukrainian mandatory challenger Andrei Kudriavtsev.
.
Murray 25, is hoping a convincing win will put him in the mix for a shot at a world title in the near future, but is not looking past Kudriavtsev, who on paper and form, looks like being a live foe for Murray.
.
Both fighters weighed in, in public yesterday at the Manchester Arndale centre, with Murray looking in trim fighting cut condition, tipping the scales at 9st 8lb 6oz with the challenger Kudriavtsev 9st 7lb 14oz.
Murray, undefeated in 29 fights, is a hot favourite with the bookmakers to make it 30-0 against Kudriavtsev, who lost a narrow points decision when he last fought for the title 14 months ago.
.
“We have watch tapes and studied Andrei’s style, he looks tough, likes using the body shots but then again most of the fighters from that part of the world are very good,” said Murray.
.
Kudriavtsev live challenger
“He will be coming over here looking for a major win to launch himself on the world stage. He is not here just to make up the numbers.
.
“Training has all gone well, I’m feeling great and I’m ready to show that I’m the best lightweight in Europe.
.
The Mancunian who has worked his way through the ranks in the traditional way, fighting all his domestic rivals in the traditional apprenticeship education of a boxer, now time served and ready to hit the world stage, hopes a win tonight will lead the path and clear the way to his ultimate, un-shakeable desire to claim a legitimate world title fight.
.
“Once I have beaten Kudriavtsev I’m hoping to get a world title shot against the winner of the Katsidis-Marquez fight, and of course I would love that to be staged at the MEN arena.”
.
Andrey Kudriavtsev, mandatory challenger for the European Lightweight title told Hennessy Sports “I am in an excellent shape and come to England to win the fight.”
.
The Ukrainian Number one lightweight said. “My Speed, unexpectedness and endurance are my trump card in the fight.”
.
“My preparation for the fight was divided in 3 stages: in early summer I had training session in the Crimea, after that I had 4 weeks of sparring, a rating fight on August 30.”
 .
“At the moment I am at the Black sea resort training hard. I had 3 good sparring partners, fully satisfied with training process.”
.
“On September 25 I will have best sport conditions.” Added Andrey.
.
The experienced pro who has 34 wins to his name which 15 have been inside the distance has been watching footage of his opponent, Champion John Murray.
.
“We’ve scrutinized all weak and strong points of the opponent and will do my best to make a hard fight for him.”
Look for Murray to work out, break down and dismantle a brave challenger, with a possible late stoppage or comfortable but hard worked points win.
On the exciting undercard, former WBC title challenger Albert Sosnowski, Prize-fighter winner Price Arron, former Commonwealth champion Paul Truscott, former British title challenger Josh Wale and hot prospects, Kid Galahad, Joe Murray and Phil Fury will all be back in action.
Matchroom Sport and Hennessy Sports will promote the 12 round European title fight which will be shown live on Sky Sports HD1 from 9pm.
