David Price

David Price will now face Tom Dallas tonight at Liverpool’s Olympia, after ‘Big’ John McDermot pulled out of the proposed headliner with a throat infection.

Dallas (15-0, 11KOs) is a stablemate of Price, both are under Frank Maloney’s promotional banner and have sparred many rounds together throughout their pro careers. (video below)

The fight will also be a re-run of the 2006 ABA final between the pair, when Price 27, won a points decision on that occasion and will be the favorite to do a repeat performance, with Dallas stepping into the breech with just 4 days to spare.

The fight will no longer be a British title eliminator, but the winner will have to face McDermott by the end of October in what will become the final eliminator for the Lonsdale belt, that is being defended by Dereck Chisora’s against Tyson Fury in July.

Tom Dallas

Dallas 26, from Kent is coming off a points win, but bad performance against American Zack Page and he will need to improve on that showing, if he is to upset Scouser Price in his own back yard. Price (10-0, 8KOs) wiped out Raphael Butler in one round in his last fight in April and has been sparring the past week or so with heavyweight champion David Haye in preparation.

The two giant British heavyweights will put their unbeaten records on the line against each other and it is a match-up that promoter Maloney believes will capture the imagination and a loss either way wont spell the end of a career.

“Tom deserves all the credit in the world for stepping in and David gets praise for taking it having prepared for weeks to face John,” Maloney told SkySports.

“It is matches like this what will get British boxing back in the national newspapers. If their sparring sessions I have witnessed are anything to go by, fans and TV viewers will see plenty of action on Saturday night.

“Someone will lose their unbeaten record, but it won’t mean the end of a career. David and Tom are true professionals.” added Maloney.

In the co-main event Paul Edwards makes the first defence of his British flyweight title against Commonwealth champion Chris Edwards. (no relation)

The Liverpool bill will be televised on Sky Sports HD this Saturday.
