In the second part of our series ‘Black Flash’ The Pat Barrett Story, the former British and European light-welterweight champion talks about his two big derby fights with Liverpool’s Sugar Gibiliru and his surprise shot at the Lonsdale belt at just a weeks notice against Tony Willis in 1989.
Without Brian I wouldn’t be where I am today, without Brian there wouldn’t have been non of anything, he made me believe that I could be and do anything” – Pat Barrett

The Black Flash also talks about his proposed fight that never happened against ring legend Julio Cesar Chavez, his ring ups and downs at that time and speaks about his special bond with long time coach and friend Brian Hughes MBE and his own hopes of continuing the work Hughes started over 50 years ago and Barrett hopes to become a great trainer in his mentors mould.

Part three will be available next week!

In part 3 – Barrett discusses his memorable European title triumph against Effrem Calamati – when he ripped the title from the champion in Italy with a brutal knockout.

Pat also speaks about his life out of the ring and visits the place of his failed world title shot against Manning Galloway, the GMEX Arena in Manchester City Centre and tells us about the fight, that he has until now put to the back of his mind!…. plus much more about the man and his hopes for the future…
