Ricky Burns successfully defended his WBO World
Lightweight Championship in front of a packed out Braehead Arena on Saturday night in front of his passionate Scottish fans in Glasgow.

Burns controlled the fight behind his tight composed defence, and from the first bell to the last secured a routine unanimous decision. – The judges’ scorecards
reflected this, scoring it 119-110, 120-110, 117-111 in favour of the
Scotsman, who retained his belt in the first defence.

Namibian
challenger Paulus Moses deserves credit for his gung-ho approach, which saw him
always carry a counter-punching threat. Burns, however, rarely looked
troubled by his experienced opponent, and will now look to line up a
massive summer bout with Kevin Mitchell, Gavin Rees or Anthony Crolla.

For
Burns, the understated control and calm he showed in going about his
work demonstrated that he has the maturity required to be a World
Champion. His win, another step on his path to becoming a British great,
will see him look towards a greater challenge in the summer, likely to
be Londoner Kevin Mitchell.
