Amir Khan talks about his pride at having the chance to follow in the footsteps
of boxing legend Muhammad Ali by carrying the Olympic torch today through his home town of Bolton in Lancashire as it continues its journey around the UK en route to London.

The 25-year-old, who won a silver medal at the Athens Games in 2004, will take the flame into Bolton on the last leg of the relay’s 13th day.

“I remember when I saw Muhammad Ali and other famous people and I thought one day if I ever get that chance it would be amazing.” said Khan.

“When they asked me to hold the torch and be part of it, I thought they meant to see it or take a picture with it or something, but I didn’t think they’d have me running with the torch! Which is something that not many people in the world get to do and I’m one of the lucky ones to get that chance.”
