The 2008 Beiging Olympic gold medallist has signed ‘a long term contract’ having not fought since stopping Italian Cristian Sanavia in April, and says he cant wait to get his career back on track with Hennessy on terrestrial TV.
“I am over the moon with my new long-term promotional deal with Hennessy Sports,’ he said. ‘ I can’t wait to get back in the ring on October 13 and show the millions of viewers on Channel 5 what I’m all about.
“The new beginning is a thrilling prospect, SO WATCH THIS SPACE!” added DeGale.
DeGale, 26, lost his British and Commonwealth titles to George Groves in May 2011 and has had two fights since. He will now hope to keep busy starting next month when he will top the bill. Hennessy promoted Tyson Fury will not be on Bluewater card, but Chris Eubank Jnr and Kid Galahad will also feature on the card, as will Phil Fury, Tyson’s cousin.
Also on the card, former British champion Lightening Lenny Daws challenges the number one Finnish fighter, Ville Piispanen for the vacant EU Light Welterweight title.
“I’m very excited to have signed a brilliant young talent like James Degale. said promoter Mick Hennessy.
“To travel to China to fight on away turf and be the only Brit to capture an Olympic gold medal in such difficult circumstances was an amazing feat.
“To be European Champion after only 13 fights is also an amazing achievement, our goal is to nurture and enhance James extreme talent to the highest level and for him to become not only a genuine world champion but also a cross-over star worldwide.”
