Matty Mainwaring (4-0) has a unique and remarkable story to tell. An ex professional football player and part time model, he now trained by former European champion Matthew Hatton, as he seeks to carve out a legacy in the sport he loves.

As a youth Matty was signed with Manchester United and Preston, and played for Macclesfield, Stockport and Hull as a pro. But he had always been a huge fight fan and has a genuine passion for boxing which started as a young lad. And he gave up the boots for gloves and hasn’t looked back.

Naming Tommy Hearns and Floyd Mayweather as his favourite fighters to learn off and aspire to, his style is fluid and well balanced and he has big ambitions in the sport.

His talent is undeniable and is growing every fight., and this Friday (March 17) at Bowlers in Manchester, he looks to make another big statement on his journey.

Matty will take on the tough Chris Jenkins (9-41, 7KOs) – The experienced Jenkins has been in the ring with fighters such as Rick Godding, Ted Cheesman and Denton Vassell amongst others so is no stranger to coming up against a young hungry prospect and it should make for a good test.

Matty is an amiable man but means business when he steps in the ring, in this interview he talks to Aky Karim for British Boxers about his love of boxing, his transition from football to the hurt business and tells of his ambition to become a fight champion.
