After a prolonged period as number one contender with the WBO, the undefeated Jack Catterall is adamant that he is next in line for champion Jose Ramirez

Firing himself up the rankings with the WBO, Chorley’s Catterall has taken on all comers, accumulating an impressive 25-0 record.

The division’s other champion is Josh Taylor, who following his blitz of Apinun Khongsong at the weekend, was also keen to call for a clash with Ramirez. However mandatory challenger Catterall emphasised to BBTV that there’s ‘no chance he will consider step-aside money as nothing is guaranteed in boxing and he is ready to take his chances’.

Furthermore, he added that he has ‘never been massively impressed with Ramirez and he believes that is a fight he can win’. Setting the stage for a domestic megafight with Taylor, to unify the decorated light-welterweight division.

Purse bids for the clash between Ramirez and Catterall were ordered by the governing body at the start of the month, meaning it’s likely that the only way the American can avoid facing off against Catterall is by vacating the strap.
