A new year, a new promoter and yet another promise to take over the Middleweight division.
Brighton’s divisive showman has grabbed the headlines in recent weeks in familiar fashion. True to form, Jr has called out almost every Welterweight, Middleweight and Super-Middleweight that world Boxing has to offer, as he looks to get back on track to where he believes he is destined to be – at the top.
A link up with the Sauerland brothers could give Jr a renaissance, but it feels like we’ve been down this road before. See the new casino reviews from Casinohawks.com
In recent claims, Eubank has suggested that “A fun warm-up fight” with Kell Brook or Liam Williams could be his next move – although if I was in the Sauerland business, I wouldn’t be picking up my phone to call Liam Williams any time soon.
Instead, it’s likely that Eubank will target the recently elevated WBA “Super” Champion of the Middleweight division, Ryota Murata. A man who we’re all guilty of BoxRec-ing, since he has been linked to a fight with Canelo for the last 12 months and more.
At 31 years old and with 31 bouts under his belt (29-2), surely now is the time for Eubank to gain momentum and have a solid year of activity as he looks to cement himself as a major player in the Middleweight scene.
Jr is no longer a prospect, in a stop-start career he will now be looking to build on his most recent but distant form, beating James DeGale and Mat Korobov in his last two outings.
What can’t be denied is his superstar attraction, Eubank plays the “game” incredibly well. A true pantomime villain, with a granite chin, a high punch output and the arrogance to match… remind you of anyone?
Despite the continued uncertainty surrounding the sport since Covid times, Eubank and the Sauerlands have a job on their hands to ensure that 2021 doesn’t become another forgetful year in the unusual career of Jr.
Brook, Williams, Murata, Golovkin, Canelo, Charlo and probably many more have all been put on red alert, so let’s wait and see what’s in store. If it’s any of the above, you can almost guarantee entertainment. Eubank is still a PPV star in the making, but the clock is ticking.
