President of Top Rank Boxing Todd Du Boef told Sky Sports on Tuesday that Scotland’s Josh Taylor now looks likely to stay at super-lightweight and defend his unified titles against WBC mandatory challenger Jose Zepeda, with talks for a potential fight between the pair now taking place.
Taylor looked set to move up to welterweight following his controversial victory over Jack Catterall in February with the Scotsman reportedly finding it increasingly difficult to meet the 140lb limit. A mega showdown with pound-for-pound star Terence Crawford was teased, but it now looks likely that the ‘Tartan Tornado’ will put his WBC, WBO and IBF straps on the line again against the in-form Zepeda.
Taylor chose to vacate his WBA title last week due to the governing body’s insistence he defend the belt against their number one mandatory challenger Angelo Puello.
