British super-welterweight champion Troy Williamson has agreed a fight with Rio 2016 Olympian and fellow North-Easterner Josh Kelly, according to the latter’s promoter Kalle Sauerland. Williamson must first emerge victorious in his tune-up bout versus David Benitez this weekend as he is expected to do before attention then turns to a mega fight for boxing in the North-East.

The fight was announced on Twitter via the official account of Nisse and Kalle Sauerland on Tuesday evening in what will be a huge contest for boxing in the North-East of England.

Williamson made the first successful defence of his Lord Lonsdale belt last time out in a hellacious twelve-round scrap with Mason Cartwright, while Kelly has scored two knockouts in under two months as he looks to build momentum once again in his career following his first pro defeat to David Avanesyan last year at welterweight.
