An undisputed bantamweight clash has been confirmed between pound-for-pound star Naoya Inoue and Liverpool’s Paul Butler for December 13th in Koto City, Japan.

Inoue, who has already held world titles in three divisions so far as a professional, enters the evening a strong favourite in his home country having won all twenty-three of his contests so far, with twenty ending inside the distance. Big names in Nonito Donaire, Emmanuel Rodriguez and Juan Carlos Payano have all fallen to the twenty-nine-year-old who remains one of the standout names in the sport.

Butler became WBO bantamweight champion after his victory over Jonas Sultan in April.

Butler’s own career has been more than impressive however, with the Liverpudlian regaining his world champion status with a victory over Filipino Jonas Sultan. The bout was initially for the interim title but the 33-year-old was upgraded to full champion shortly after his victory in April.

A victory for the Brit would no doubt register as one of the biggest victories on away soil by a British fighter against one of the sport’s finest offerings.
