Promoter Frank Warren has confirmed the signing of English heavyweight champion Solomon Dacres in a sit-down interview with iFL TV.
The former Team GB fighter was previously signed with Matchroom Boxing since making his professional debut in May 2021 but now looks set to team up with Warren at Queensberry Promotions.
Warren was discussing potential match-ups for British champion Fabio Wardley – for which Dacres is mandatory challenger – when he revealed Dacres as his latest heavyweight signing.
The 30-year-old has won all seven of his professional outings, two coming inside the distance, and he claimed the vacant English heavyweight title with a second-round stoppage victory over Robert Ismay in March.
He has since won a wide unanimous decision against Chris Thompson over ten rounds in August.
Wardley made the first defence of his British title with a seventh-round stoppage of David Adeleye in Saudi Arabia this weekend – a fight for which Dacres was ringside for.
The pair came face-to-face in the aftermath of the champion’s victory as Dacres vowed to steal the title from him when both meet in the ring.
“You done well tonight man, well done but the level of that, you’re gonna have to bring a much higher level [against me] man,” Dacres said.
“Keep them belts warm for a minute man, you won’t be holding them for long.”
Wardley, who also won the vacant Commonwealth title on the night, is also a promotional free agent according to reports after fighting on the Queensberry card in the Middle East on Saturday.
