13th December 2012

It almost seems like de ja vu, Amir Khan to fight in December again and against a boxer who is of South American descent, this time Carlos Molina, however the main difference is, it’s not for a title belt, this is the progression towards a title belt.
Khan may of fallen two steps back recently with the scenario with Lamont Peterson and the loss to Danny Garcia; however with Virgil Hunter his new trainer gripping his every move mentally and physically, this young boxer who only turned 26 the other day may show us something entirely different.

It’s leading to some kind of excitement, as we don’t quite know what to expect, and Molina may be a known as a hard puncher, on the contrary his skill level may not be matching Khan’s.
I caught up with one of Khan’s close friends Maz Bonafide from the music duo “Bonafide” who has been following and supporting Khan’s progress from the UK to the States and has spoken to Khan recently.
BB – So Khan is going to be fighting against Carlos Molina in a regular welterweight fight, how do you think he will do against him?
Maz – I don’t know much about his opponent, but I think he’s going to knock him out, in a stoppage in the 6th round.
BB – What have you heard from the new training camp from Amir about his new trainer Virgil Hunter?

Maz – I heard it’s going really well, I’ve heard that his new trainer is a defensive trainer, exactly what Amir needs, I’ve been chatting to Amir and he seems really focused and looking forward to the fight.
BB – Apart from his strength training and regular training, what other things has Virgil Hunter been asking him to do?
Maz – To get his defence techniques right and to focus.
BB – Well Khan is coming back from two losses, if he loses this fight what will you think, as your one of his close friends more than a fan?
Maz – I think this will be the make or break for him, so if he doesn’t win this one then the big fights he wants to go for like Mayweather isn’t in the picture anymore and it will be a longer stretch for him to get his titles back, hopefully he’s going to succeed in this fight then there could be a fight with Kell Brook. His last fight was a bit of a wake up call for him, and for this fight he much more focused and he knows this is a make or break fight. We’ll be supporting him all the way whatever happens.
Amir Khan vs. Carlos Molina will be aired on Saturday 15th December on SHOWTIME Boxing in a 12 round Super Lightweight Bout at 10.30pm ET/PT, on the undercard there will be Deontay Wilder vs. Kelvin Price and Alfredo Angulo vs. Jorge Silva.
