‘Phat’ Pat McAleese
When Light Middleweight contender ‘Phat’ Pat McAleese last faced Lee Noble, on the Ricky Hatton promoted show at the Goresbrook Leisure Centre in Dagenham, Essex back on the 26th March, things didn’t go quite the way that McAleese or his legion of fans expected, with the referee, Richie Davies, scoring the contest a 58-58 points draw.

Following the surprise result McAleese told Boxing Scene’s Dean Parr, “A lot of people in the crowd gave me five out of the six rounds, and I thought I won four out of the six, and drew the last, if not winning it.” then adding, “I’ll hopefully get a rematch and set the record straight.”

McAleese has got his wish and at the same time the opportunity to secure his first championship belt, as the rematch, which will be for the British Masters Light Middleweight Title, co-headlines the Steve Goodwin promoted ‘It’s Personal’ event at the York Hall, Bethnal Green, London on Saturday the 11th September 2010.

Following a heavy sparring session under the watchful eyes of his manager/trainer Johnny Eames and co-trainer Derek Grainger, at the Ultrachem TKO Gym in Canning Town, McAleese spoke of the upcoming showdown, “You better believe it’s personal. I have no doubt in my mind that I am going to win. I’ve trained better, I’ve slept better, eating better and I’ve rested.

The last fight came at the end of a busy season. I only fought thirteen days before the last fight and was feeling a bit tired on the night. On the 11th September it’s going to be a very different Pat McAleese in the ring so he’s in for a shock.

It was frustrating, I thought I won. It wasn’t me in the ring really, it was a jaded me, but I feel I still won. This time I’m gonna be in tiptop shape. I’m going to be doing a proper training camp in London for two weeks just before the fight so I’ll be ready for it.

The training and sparring I’m getting here, at the Ultrachem TKO Gym, is first class. Johnny (Eames) and Derek (Grainger) have been really putting me through the paces. It’s good, really good. They’ve also lined me up some top class sparring with Eddie (Corcoran), Nathan (Weise) and Erick (Ochieng).

Erick’s also on the September show. He’s sharp, we’ve been doing some real good sparring, doing plenty of rounds in the gym. It’s coming together nicely as Erick’s got a similar style to Lee (Noble), he’s got a fast jab and he’s awkward to hit. The main difference is that Erick goes low, and lets off more shots while Lee goes high and then covers up. It’s slightly different, but it’s still great sparring for me.

I want to win this so badly, it’s unreal, I’m giving it hundred and ten percent in training and I know that on the night I’ll win it in the ring.”
