Michael Sprott lost his European heavyweight title challenge against Ukranian champion Alexander Dimitrenko via a unanimous decision at the Dima-Sportcenter in Hamburg on Saturday night.
The judges scores of 117-111, 116-111 and 119-108 all in favor of the champion were well off the mark, Sprott did much better than them tallys suggested and some thought he was unlucky not to claim an unlikely victory Germany.
After a slow start Sprott began to use his experience to make Dimitrenko look very ordinary and one dimensional. The Reading man came into the fight more in the second period after making a somewhat cautious start against the taller champion.
Sprott 36, had Dimitrenko over in round 10 with a body shot and a right hand, but the referee didnt pick up any count. Unbelivably taking a point off Sprott for a foul.
British fighters dont get any favors in Germany, just ask Robin Reid and Matthew Macklin!
