Cruiserweight Jack Massey has admitted he is grateful for his ever-growing fanbase as the exciting prospect looks set for titles within the next 12 months.
The 25-year-old is preparing for his fight on the undercard of Frank Warren’s incredible end of year show which sees Carl Frampton take on Josh Warrington as the main event in December.
A former ABA winner, Massey had a successful amateur career to say the least. He won 47 out of his 54 fights leading to a Bronze in the Youth Commonwealth Games and a Gold in the Tri-Nations along with multiple Junior and Senior ABA titles.
Rumours have circulated about a fight with fellow Cruiserweight prospect and current British Champion Lawrence Okolie as Massey’s profile continues to grow.
And the Derbyshire-born hitter reckons that the remarkable rise in notoriety can only be a good thing as his career goes on.
“When I look back at my debut at the Macron to now, it’s incredible really how many new fans I have,” he said.
“I took two coaches loaded with fans down to Bolton for my first fight, it was against the durable Jody Meikle.
“At the time, that was special and obviously to win as I did against Jody set a real marker down.
“But for my last fight on the Tyson Fury undercard I sold over £21k worth of tickets so that in itself shows that I am doing something right.”
With his prolific amateur career behind him fans are now calling for him to face Anthony Joshua’s protege, Okolie with the pair baiting each other on social media.
Londoner Okolie got the better of Matty Askin over 12 rounds in September at Wembley Stadium as he controversially was docked points on a number of occassions.
Is Massey next in line for the Olympian?
He finished: “We have had a few words back and forth over our next fights each, I am happy to fight him anywhere, he says he’ll take it.
“But let’s see what happens, I have my doubts.”
