Eddie Hearn is eyeing a fight between Zelfa Barrett and Alex Dilmaghani for Matchroom’s Cardiff show on April 22nd.
Hearn confirmed he liked the fight in an interview with BBTV as Barrett plots his 2023 return.
The 29-year-old suffered a ninth-round stoppage defeat to Tajikistan’s Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov in November for the vacant IBF super-featherweight title.
Rakhimov now headlines against Wales’ Joe Cordina in the Welsh capital on April 22nd.
“It’s a good fight. Zelfa wants to keep on the run that he’s on, he had a great fight against Rakhimov and wants a very credible opponent then he wants to try and fight Joe Cordina if he wins”, Hearn said.
“And then I think if Joe Cordina wins, I think Zelfa Barrett is a great opponent for him.
“That’ll be a great fight for him [Barrett] on April 22nd [against Dilmaghani] on a big night of boxing.”
Dilmaghani indicated that he is up for the fight on Twitter but says May is a more realistic date following his recent hospitalisation for pneumonia.
The 32-year-old is set to face Liam Dillon at York Hall this weekend for the vacant British super-featherweight title.
Hearn also hushed any claims that Dmitry Bivol versus Joshua Buatsi is a done deal for the summer in Abu Dhabi.
“I saw people saying it’s signed and all sorts. But no, we’d love to make that fight and there have been a few discussions but nothing concrete yet.”
