The unification fight between WBA light-welterweight champion Amir Khan and WBC/WBO belt holder Timothy Bradley will not be taking place on July 23 after fight negotiations broke down.

Khans hopes of facing Bradley, regarded as the best of the rest in the 140lb division, after notable victories over Junior Witter, Devon Alexander, Lamont Peterson and Kendall Holt, were dashed when the two sides were unable to agree terms.

Bradley (27-0, 11KOs) was apparently offered $1.4 million to face Khan, plus a 50 percent split of the pay-per-view sales made in the UK. But it seems that was below what he had in mind!

“Right now I’m not fighting Amir Khan,” said the undefeated Bradley.

“Unfortunately, we couldn’t come to terms. I’m ready and willing to go and look for other available opportunities.”

The fight was deemed to be a mere formality following Khan’s victory over Marcos Maidana last year and Bradley’s win over Alexander in January. Khan then beat Paul McCloskey at the Manchester MEN Arena last months by technical decision due to a cut sustained by the Northern Irishman.

Bradley refused to discuss the private negotiations in public, but had confirmed that there would be no fight.

But in a video message to Khan, by Elie Seckbach of ES News, Bradley had a message for the British boxer, and expects to still meet his fellow world title holder in the future.

“This message is for Khan baby! You escaped, I let you escape. said Bradley.

“But please believe it we will get it on, stay tuned, Im telling you we will get it on, but on my terms.”

Khan (25-1, 17KOs) will now have to look elsewhere for an opponent for his July date and could still be involved in a unification fight, with the chance of adding another belt to his existing and face experienced IBF strap holder Zab Judah. Other names on the shortlist are the impressive lightweight boxer Robert Guerrero. A rematch with Argentinian banger Marcos Maidana has also been touted, although rematches with Paul McCloskey and Briedis Prescott are long shots.

Who should Khan fight next if not Bradley?
