Emerging British heavyweight Moses Itauma (11-0, 9KOs) has been named as the Ring Magazine‘s Prospect of the Year.

The 20-year-old was presented with the accolade at the Ring Awards gala in London on Saturday evening.

Itauma picked up four victories across 2024, winning all inside the distance.

Moses Itauma ended 2024 with several statement wins

The former youth world gold medalist began the year with his fourth consecutive first-round stoppage victory over Bradford heavyweight Dan Garber at York Hall to move to 8-0.

Less than a month later, Itauma was back out again, this time halting Germany-based Ilja Mezencev inside two rounds.

Mezencev had won 25 of his 29 bouts heading into the fight but was no match for the brute force of Itauma, who dropped and stopped him to make it five wins inside the distance in a row.

Again, the Briton wasted little time and returned to action two months down the line for his sternest test yet.

Former world title challenger Mariusz Wach had seen better days at 44 years of age but had only been stopped once in five years prior to their meeting.

Yet, Itauma was able to force yet another early win, again dropping and stopping the Polish heavyweight inside two.

The convincing nature of his wins meant climbing yet another rung on the boxing ladder, despite him having just 10 bouts to his name in the paid ranks.

A rare five month lay-off allowed Itauma to breathe before a deal was made to face Australian heavyweight Demsey McKean on December 21st.

Unlike Wach, McKean was still in his fighting prime at 34 and had suffered just one defeated in 23 bouts – a twelfth-round loss to Filip Hrgovic 16 months prior.

The Australian also had 14 knockouts to his name and while Itauma entered a strong favourite, many were intrigued to see if he was able to continue his remarkable run of ending fights in the opening rounds.

Itauma didn’t disappoint, flooring McKean twice with thunderous left hands before landing a stunning first-round victory to round the year off.
