I started at 11 years of age in my local boxing club in Wolverhampton. That smell walking up those wooden steps into the gym will stay with me for ever. I had 86 amateur fights winning 62 with four draws. So not a bad record, then I met a woman lol who was six years older than me I was 19. That was that, I stopped boxing.
I still kept in contact with a few lads in the gym, one day I had a call off one who needed a lift to his pro fight. In Portsmouth against a certain showman from Brighton Mr Eubank!!
Steve lost however after the fight I spoke with Chris in length and we swapped numbers. I went to all his fights after that and we became friends. I have a nice photograph album to back this up. Special inner ringside wristbands after fight parties. Access all area passes you name it I was there.
When Chris retired we lost contact. However it's nice to see his son following in his protective father's footsteps and who can blame him. Chris Eubank Jnr is one hell of a boxer who has dynamite in either hand. With an array of combination punches reminiscent of a young Mike Tyson.
I love the sweet science the noble art of to hit and not get hit. I attend shows when I can as it's expensive now and I'm registered disabled now. With sky and box nation the coverage is awesome so that's how I watch the fights. I go to the local boys clubs shows as a friend of mine an ex pro Richard Carter from Wolverhampton runs Wolverhampton boxing club.
That's my boxing story oh and I never married that girl either lol.
