|Paul ‘Smigga’ Smith holds his British title aloft with help from promoter Frank Warren|
After the disappointment of the Brian Magee showdown falling through, British Super-Middleweight champion Paul Smith is looking for a new opponent for a September showdown.
The scouser 27, was lined up for a European Title shot against Irishman Magee but the fight fell through after Magee’s camp backed out of negotiations.
At domestic level “Smigga” has limited options, George Groves is Commonwealth Champion but would be more of a step back for Smith, as would James DeGale at this early stage of his career.
Carl Froch is already lined up to face Arthur Abraham in the super six series and its debatable whether he would fight Smith unless Paul had a World Title.
|Sakio Bika the IBO champ|
Sakio Bika is the IBO champion and could be a possibility as he holds a World recognised belt, if only a lesser known one and a tilt at Robert Stieglitz can’t be ruled out for his WBO crown but maybe Smith would have to travel to the Germans hometown which might not appeal to him.
A few other names to mention would be fellow Contender boxer Jesse Brinkley, former World king Jermain Taylor whose on a terrible run of 4 defeats in 5 and maybe a fight in America can’t be ruled out with names such a Kelly Pavlik and Brian Vera in the frame.
Whoever is in Paul and Frank Warren’s thoughts, its more likely to take place in Liverpool Dockland’s Echo Arena which Smith has sold out twice in the last year.
An announcement will be made in the near future.
