Manchester’s Anthony Crolla claimed the vacant British lightweight title against Liverpool’s John Watson at the Olympia arena in Watson’s home town. 12/02/2011
Both men put on a terrific fight for the fans, which is already being hailed as a potential candidate for British fight of the year 2011 and its only February. Crolla produced an impressive performance, dominating throughout, staying in range with a water tight defence, eventually wearing his opponent down before finally knocking him out with a right hook, after stepping into a southpaw stance to get the shot off perfectly. Crolla will now have to defend the title against Wale’s former champion Gavin Rees, who gave up the title, with the promise of the first shot at the winner. Crolla vs Rees has the potential to even top Crolla, Watson. The ‘Million Dollar’ man is fast compiling his own fight of the year collections. He was also involved in BritishBoxers fight of 2010 against Andy Morris.
