English cruiserweight champion Matty Askin (20-3-1, 13KOs) turned pro at 18-years-old, 10 years ago and has had an eventful career along the way, picking up some good wins, a few titles and the odd bump and bruise along the way.

Now, as Askin enters the prime years of his fight career, the experienced Blackpool boxer takes on Belfast’s Tommy McCarthy (9-0,6KOs) in a British title eliminator at the Bolton Whites Hotel in Bolton on October 22.

Askin, 28, who is now trained by his former gym mate Mike Jennings and his brother Dave in Chorley, spoke to Britishboxers about the McCarthy fight and more.

Askin was at the Collyhurst and Moston Gym in Manchester, where he was sparring with Blaise Mendou.
