Undefeated contenders Rey Vargas (28-0, 22 KOs), from Mexico, and Doncaster’s co-challenger Gavin McDonnell (16-0-2 4 early) both kept their side of their pre-title fight pact by hitting the weight limit for tomorrow night’s vacant WBC World Super bantamweight title clash, which takes place at Hull’s Ice Arena and will be shown live on Sky Sports here in the U.K.
McDonnell, the twin brother of WBA World bantamweight holder holder Jamie, weighed in at 120.5lbs for the bout, with the visiting titlist hitting an even 120lbs to ensure that the bout goes ahead without a hitch. McDonnell will hope to join his sibling at the world title top table, but Vargas is in form and the home fighter may lack the pop to hold his man off, which should lead to an exciting clash.
