Super-Welterweight rivals Liam Smith and Liam Williams are set for a rematch, promoter Frank Warren confirmed on Sunday morning.
After the controversial ending to their bloody battle at the Manchester Arena, both men now get the chance to settle the score in an eliminator for the WBO World Title.
Clydach Vale’s Williams started on the front foot against Smith on April 8th, and his opponent was cut just three rounds in. Smith, though, was improving towards the latter stages of the bout.
There was a clash of heads in the ninth round as Williams, previously unbeaten, suffered a nasty wound on his right eye, but it appeared the cut may have opened moments earlier.
Williams’ vision was severely affected and trainer Gary Lockett pulled the Welshman out of the fight. Instantly, fans demanded a rematch.
