BBTV visits Leicester’s community boxing gym to meet Ajmal “Hudge” Butt
On a local council estate in Beaumont Leicester a short trip up some metal stairs leads into a unique boxing space which services a community. A Gym borne out of both pain and love.
Ajmal Butt tells us about the tragic circumstances which lead him to form the “Unity Boxing Club” in 2010 in memory of his brother, Anton, who was murdered on the estate in 1996.
The interview raises issues surrounding boxing and it’s impact on a devastated community. Now in 2019 “Hudge” as he is locally known, has taken the club to great heights with numerous amateur boxing accolades as well as mentoring and training his two up and coming pro fighters Lyon Woodstock and CJ Challenger.
