Chris Eubank Jr has confirmed he will rematch Liam Smith at London’s O2 Arena on September 2nd.
The update follows weeks of speculation surrounding a potential showdown between Eubank Jr and Conor Benn in the Middle East.
“Eubank vs Smith 2 at the 02 September 2nd @LiamBeefySmith”, wrote the 33 year old on Twitter earlier today.
Smith raised eyebrows with a fourth-round stoppage of Eubank Jr in Manchester six months ago to hand the Brighton man the first stoppage defeat of his career.
Eubank Jr activated a rematch clause the following month with the fight set to take place in both June and July before a Smith injury forced two postponements.
Rumours soon began to circle surrounding a potential showdown with Benn however who Eubank Jr was initially set to meet at a 157lbs catchweight in October.
The bout was called off at the eleventh hour however after it was revealed that Benn tested positive for the banned substance clomiphene in two tests.
Smith responded to Eubank Jr’s tweet, reminding him of the result in January by ensuring his name appeared before that of his opponent.
“No no, SMITH vs Eubank 2 is September 2nd O2 Arena,” wrote the Liverpudlian.
The fight has not been officially confirmed by the fighters two promoters BOXXER and Wasserman Boxing.
