Matthew Hatton produced a quick fire unexpected 1st round KO against Michael Lomax on Friday night to rack up his 43rd win in a 51 fight career, at Bowlers Arena in Manchester on a Dave Coldwell promoted show.
It was Hatton’s first fight since his loss to Kell Brook in March and now training back with Lee Beard looked focused and in good shape as he sets out on another world title quest.
It took just one minute and 24 seconds of the opening round for Hatton to find the shot that ended Lomax’s night. A right hook to the body which dropped Lomax to the canvas instantly such was the timing and power of the sickening shot.
Lomax looked like he was going to get up and carry on, although he did look in pain, but he got up on the stroke of nine and referee Steve Gray waved the fight over with Lomax still appearing to be in some distress.
Hatton who challenged Saul Alvarez for the WBC light-middleweight title last year is taking another route to a world title challenging for the IBO welterweight title against South Africa’s Chris van Heerden in March.
Afterwards James Helder for ifilmLondon spoke to Hatton about the fight and what’s next. (video above)
