Scotland’s Josh Taylor will officially defend his WBO super-lightweight title against Brooklyn’s Teofimo Lopez Jr on June 10th.

The bout will take place at Madison Square Garden in New York as Taylor fights Stateside for the fifth time as a pro.

The Scotsman hasn’t fought since his controversial split-decision victory over Jack Catterall in February last year.

While a rematch was initially scheduled against Chorley’s Catterall, an injury to his heel forced such plans to be put to one side.

The WBO then ordered Taylor, who vacated the WBC, IBF and WBA belts in pursuit of a second Catterall fight, to defend against former lightweight champion Lopez Jr.

The latter appeared in his second fight at 140lbs in December when he won a contentious ten-round decision against Spain’s Sandor Martin.

Lopez Jr. previously held the WBA, WBO and IBF titles at lightweight before suffering a shock split-decision defeat to George Kambosos Jr. in November 2021.

Many have questioned the mental state of Lopez Jr, who was pictured asking himself “do I still got it?” during the aftermath of his fight with Martin last year.
