|El “The Showman” Maachi|
Recently I had the opportunity to catch up with the newly crowned International masters champion Yassine El “The Showman” Maachi, and got his take on a few different things. Danny Nolan.
El Maachi picked up the first title of his career with a point’s win over Bertrand Aloa to claim the masters title. And when asked about his feelings on picking up his first title and his performance in the fight he had this to say “I am so happy about my first title and the performance what I did for my crowd, the fight was one of the best I had.”
El Maachi is currently on a 9 fight winning streak losing his last fights back in 2008 to Thomas McDonagh and 2007 to Denton Vassell. Confident he could have gone on to beat the pair, he blames the losses on a former Corner man.
“I fought against Denton Vassell and I dropped him in this first round, and my ex-corner man said if you beat him I can`t get you fights anymore.” added El Maachi.
When asked about possible future rematches with the pair El Maachi replied “I’d like to fight them anytime anywhere and if they beat me I’ll stop boxing, but I would like to fight boxers with big names except Manny Pacquiao.” If the winning streak continues then surely their paths will cross again in the future.
Like most fighters Yassine wants a shot at all the big names in the country, stating “If I can chose, I’ll start with (European 154lbs champion) Ryan Rhodes, Jamie Moore, Matthew Hall or Prince Aaron the one who took my Prizefighter victory.”
For the time being however has to get past Dee Mitchell who he is scheduled to fight on the 19thof this month, after a fight with Max Maxwell (who last week knocked out previously undefeated Brian Rose) fell through.
After being asked where he would like to be in the next two years he simply said “WBC world champion inshallah.” (Allah/God willing.) Depending on whether he stays at 154 or 160lbs I wonder what Champion Sergio Martinez would have to say on the subject.
